A taste of fame...

Hello!

I'm delighted to be the bearer of some rather exciting news: I'm going to be famous! Well, I'm going to have some photographs published in the Derby Evening Telegraph. Recently the Original Olive café-bar in Derby (purveyors of amazing coffee!) asked me to create a series of photographs showing off their new menu; I was doubly pleased because as part of my remit they asked that I let my creativity flow and portray their food and drinks in an artistic light. They must be pleased with the outcome as they have selected the images to accompany an article about their exciting new products.

My background is in portrait photography, which I have been doing for about seven years now. It's only relatively recently that I've chosen to branch out into corporate photography, and I must say that I'm really enjoying the challenges it's throwing in my direction - and I'm obviously thrilled to make the pages of the local rag! Onwards and upwards...

Anyone for al fresco photography?

Put down that Pimm's! Summer is upon us once again - there's no better season to get out into the great outdoors for a lifestyle shoot with a difference. For that reason, I'm celebrating the fair weather (touch wood) and light nights with a fabulous offer: 90-minute 'al fresco' photoshoots, plus a 10"x8" print of your choice, for just £19 - bargain! This offer is on for a strictly limited time only (and there are of course Ts & Cs - see my website for more details); normally this service would cost £134 so contact me now to take advantage of this brilliant deal.

Four weddings and a beer festival

Now early spring isn’t always the busiest time of year in my profession but since taking on a couple of design commissions early in the year I’ve found I’ve been doing more and more design work to complement my already-plentiful photography work. I’m still doing plenty of shoots; indeed, I’ve just been down to Coventry to show one couple the fabulous photos from their pre-wedding shoot (see pic). I went to see the venues for their big day as well and they’re incredibly photogenic; I can tell already that the pictures will look an absolute treat.

It seems this summer that if I’m not photographing weddings, I’ll be attending them: three of my friends are tying the knot this year! And what with plenty of exhibitions planned from June onwards, my schedule really does resemble a minefield. But what’s this slotted in next week? Ah, a holiday! And no ordinary holiday: a trip to Bavaria for one of Germany’s best beer fests – fantastisch! Auf wiedersehen folks!

New Year, new vocation?…

Happy 2010 everybody! I hope those resolutions are holding up to scrutiny!

The New Year has brought some much-needed calm on the ‘ATP’ front – it’s great to relax a little after the festive season’s excess. Although I’ve not had much in the way of photoshoots since Christmas, I’m amazed by the number of enquiries I’m getting for weddings; I guess everyone’s searching for that next thing to look forward to! Some weekends this summer are already looking a bit chocka so if you’re thinking of giving me a bell to have a quick chat, don’t delay.

And now for something completely different… I’ve always had an appreciation for good design, whether it’s book covers, poster art or company logos. Wholly unintentionally, I’ve found myself doing a couple of graphic design commissions this month. Graphic design uses a lot of the same Photoshop skills as editing photographs but in some ways is more challenging as you have to start with a completely blank canvas. It’s very enjoyable all the same and who knows – maybe ‘Adam Turner Photography & Design’ is a potential progression?… Here’s one of my designs; let me know what you think.

Portraits aplenty

The pre-Christmas rush has well and truly hit the studio in the past couple of weeks. I’ve enjoyed getting stuck in and creating some cracking images (please see an early favourite above!), but now I have to make sure everything’s ready on time; if I’m not Photoshopping I’m on the phone to suppliers chasing up orders. And I’ve barely made a dent into my Xmas shopping – help!!

In the midst of all this I’ve somehow managed to put together a nifty little video showcasing an example set of wedding photography. And now I’m going to attempt to upload it onto this blog (wish me luck!)…

Hopefully you can view that without hitch and moreover enjoy what you view. I’m really getting into my wedding photography at the moment and I’m delighted to report that I’ve already got plenty of interest for 2010 bookings. Book now to avoid disappointment, folks!

I’ve just enough space to mention the randomest moment since I last blogged – doing a photoshoot in a high-tech signal box. You read that right: a signal box! I guess when Network Rail need some professional portraits to insert into training literature, someone’s got to take them…
